Dear Lucile:

Yesterday I heard that Atherton had a heart attack a week ago. So I called his home and he answered, having just returned from the hospital. He told me that he was doing well and felt hopeful; that the doctor said he could return to his classes next Tuesday (Feb. 14). He gave me the impression that the attack was a moderate one, if there be such. He said that when he was around again we'd get together for the final arrangements regarding the MSS and the library.

By the way, Lady, did I tell you in my letter of yesterday about the "poem" "To a Hat-Pin" which was published in Truth during 1901 or -02? I was obliged to copy the last fold of the letter, and I'm wondering if I missed a page!

Affectionate hellos to Bower, Stewart, you — and our arful

(See over)
little friend.

John

How does Webster spell arful -arffull? Maybe Perky knows.
