Dear Lucile:

Two weeks ago last Sunday, I was in an auto accident about forty miles north of Vermillion, South Dakota. I was in the hospital six days and then six more days in bed at the home of Dr. Christ. I reached here day before yesterday, and I am still pretty well bunged up, although I am sure I will be all right after some weeks. While the experience has been very painful, the kindness I have experienced has been worth the trouble. At the hospital in Viborg, South Dakota, it was as though I were a long-lost relative returned, and I heard from so many people, and many called on me. I am not sure about making the Oregon trip, but I am hoping.

Same old affection

John
