Dear Lucile:

A week from tomorrow I'll see you!! I'm so eager to get acquainted again, and it will be a fine experience to hear the Biography.

For the past week I've beenb been having outrageous pain in my back - the kind that grips in spasms. We've been having damp, cold weather, and I'm sure it has "settled" (as we used to say) in the places where I was most bruised. I know I'll be all right again when the weather changes. I have lost a summer, and even now there is so much I need to be doing.

Do tell me your plan for the running visit to Columbia. Gail has been staying here with me most nights. If you would care to stay here you can have the new bedroom with two beds and Gail will still have a bedroom. I should have written you sooner.

O I am so glad you are coming! When the pain stops, I'm fairly natural, and I can stop it with stuff I have. Love to you & each of the others (Lassie thinks I am going to have puppies!!)

-
John
