Dear Lucile,

It was good to hear from you and to know that you will soon be back in Eugene. You seemed so very far away — and not only in space.

It would be better if you could plan to come here and let me split the plane fare with you. It grieves me to think that we can't furnish accomodations for you. I do wish it were otherwise, for I don't forget the happy times I've had in your House of Happiness.

We do need to do work together, and I'm most eager to get into the biography with you.

I'll be doing a stunt on Thurs. this week for the A. A. U. W. of Booneville. I can try out some new eye-strategy in preparation for the Laureate Tour.

I'll be at Bancroft again (for a reading) on Oct. 11, Then on the 12th and 13th I'll be at Wayne, They are making preparation for some sort of "doings", and they say I'll be "surprised" and, they hope, "pleased".

Please let me know soon what you can do. I'm very eager to see you again.

Love as always —

John N.

The Lyrics should be out now. I'll send you a copy as soon as I get one. I'm sorry about the cover. They used a picture of me that is rather a caricature, I think. Evidently they thought it "modernistic". It was taken close up with top lighting, thus exaggerating shadows, and there's a curious distortion across the middle of the face made by a reflection from the glasses. I hope it does not scare our customers away!!

John
I hope it's better than it seems to me. You can tell me.
