Dear Lucile:

I need not tell you how sorry I am about the accident.

I reached the airport a few minutes after the plane took off, because we struck the red lights all the way out. I changed my ticket for a very fast plane leaving at 12:33. The idea was to catch a 2:10 plane at S. F. We made the trip to S. F. in one hour and five minutes which can't be called loitering! I caught that 2:10 plane with about 20 minutes to spare and with no difficulty in changing. planes. We were comfortably set for a nice fast trip to Phoenix when it was announced that there was something wrong with the plane's nose, so would we please be patient for about 20 minutes. We were patient four hours, but we had good company. The waiting was not unpleasant for me, but Maxine was sitting on those hard seats in Phoenix wondering when we'd really get started. However, she was her sweet self when I finally arrived.

I don't know how to thank you and Bower for your kindess to me.

I think and think of your Father and the difficult task he has in hand. I like to think of that twinkle in his eyes!

Give my kind thoughts to your sister Ruth. I am so glad I could meet her.

— And love to you and Bower.
