Dear Lucile:

I do need to hear from you! Surely you can find a few moments to write me!

I've been at Skyrim for two weeks, receiving two fine honors. Did I send you any articles on these? On Apr. 12 I rec'd the Thomas Jefferson Award and on April 20th there was a lovely ceremony dedicating the Neihardt Collection and the bronze bust, now in its place. (It is beautifully arranged in an alcove, with draperies.)

On April 29th (next week) I'll have an eye operation. Will be in the hospital a week and then three more weeks for recovery. Wish me luck!

I've had good luck with my "autobiography". It certainly does not conflict with your book. It is not a chronological record of my life. A better title would be "The Story of My Heart" — a title I'd use were it not that Jefferies used it. I do not know of any book conceived as this one is. It's really a chain of recollections. I have the first 10000 words. Your book is really needed to supplement mine.

I still like you, by Golly, even tho' you are "awful mad" at me! (Are you?)

Love to you, dear Lady

P. S.

Did you read the story of my "ghost dog" in Spearfish Canyon?

You know about my darling poodle, Jacquot — ? Well, he went hunting for me ten days ago and got picked up. I offered $25 reward just before I returned he

(over)
here, and it worked! Alice called by 'phone at midnight last night to tell me he was back! After 10 days! I had about given him up. Bless his heart! He just had to find his man!

Love —
