Dear Lucile:

I worry about you, and I wish I could know how things are with you.

When we last exchanged letters, you were almost ready to send your chapter on When The Tree Flowered. I know you must have been swamped in difficulties or you would have written.

How is your Father? My heart aches for him and you. I wish that he could remember me a little so that I could send him love.

Two movie outfits are nibbling at Hugh Glass and Three Friends. The Ironically enough, I sold a 5-year option option to a London firm last year, but we have gotten around that, I believe.

The Old Man Remembers book is moving ahead. I've heard it read aloud two or three times, and and it made listeners cry at times and howl with mirth at other times. (Really!) Yet it is quietly written and simple.

I give public recitals from memory only only!

I want your Book to come out well ahead of mine, and it is so greatly needed. I do hope you are past fearing that "they will say I white-washed you" (meaning me).

There is a very noticeable growth in appreciation of my stuff. I can't keep the mail answered.

I do love you as always. And give my kindest thoughts to Bower & Stewart.
