Dear Professor Sayre:

At last I have heard most of your article read aloud and it gives me pleasure and satisfaction to tell you that I am quite satisfied with what you have done. I am very glad that you used the expressions "editorial" and "creative" in your description of my part in the cooperation, and I greatly appreciate your trusting me. There is so much more than you know, about my feeling for the whole matter. I feel that I performed a sacred duty and am still doing as I had promised the old man I would do. There are passages that are all "creative," but they are perfectly true to the characteristic attitudes and thoughts of my old teacher. You have gotten the fundamental truth and I think you have done a fine, scholarly job. I am going to read more of the article and much of it twice.

The article has attracted wide attention I think. I have recieved four copies from various parts of the country.

With thanks and kind thoughts,

John G. Neihardt
