Mr. Fred Lee Kansas City, Missouri
Dear Fred:

Many hearty thanks for your glowing telegram of April 21. I prize it greatly and it will go among the other beautiful expressions of regard that I have received for the anniversary of my laureateship. I wish you could have been present for this. It was the most remarkable affair of the sort I had ever seen with all of the city and state officials present. I enclose a program which will give you some idea of what happened but there was a "go" in the whole affair that I cannot describe. It needed to be experienced.

And then — that lordly capitol building.

I expect to be seeing you one of these times although I don't know when. I will be at Park College on the 12th of May. I have been going pretty hard and am tired but there is plenty of compensation, and I am grateful.

With the old affection, your friend

John G. Neihardt
