Dear Slade:

I see that I waited several days too long to answer your letter regarding the trip to Iceland. I meant to write much sooner but you would be surprised to know how many things happen in my business.

I suppose your mail will follow you around over the world, and if so this one shall be able to catch you. I want to say, first of all, that I am very glad that you are making this trip. It will be quite wonderful.

I am well acquainted with the Patience Worth story. I knew Mrs. Rogers well. It was she through whom Patience Worth came and I have had her own account of the Patience mystery. Mrs. Rogers gave me all the Patience Worth books with her signature. When I first knew her she was Mrs. Curran, but I knew her better after her second marriage.

It was good of you to copy the poems by Patience. They are most remarkable, aren't they? Mrs. Rogers was living in St. Louis when I was on the Post-Dispatch and I spent several evenings with her in her home. I just wanted to let you know this and wish you a happy voyage. Also, may I tell you again that you are dear to me.

My kindest thoughts for both you and your lady,

John G Neihardt

During the first week of April Pocket Books issued an edition of 200,000 copies of my BLACK ELK SPEAKS. The edition was sold out early in May and the book is still selling all over the country.
