Letter from John G. Neihardt to Lucile Aly, May 3, 1962

Dear Lucile:

I've just heard from Connie about your mother, and I want you to know that I care. I don't know where to send flowers, but my thoughts are there. I know well what you feel, and I know there's not much to say that help. But I do care. I've had that overwhelming feeling of emptiness. Even though it may be time for someone dear to go, it's the end of something that meant so much and is not going to be anymore in this world. But I know how strong you are.

I think of your Father, and I feel for him.

I was just about to write you a silly letter just for fun, because I like you; and then I heard from Connie.

I was delig [?] ddelighted to hear that you have been making speeches for Bower! Bully!! I do want him to win, and I wish you'd tell me about the political situation and outlook.

So, old Stewart is 14 years old My gosh! And getting older, and taller, and more and more manly!

Love to each of you — John
