Letter from John G. Neihardt to Lucile Aly, May 19, 1962

Dear Lucile:

This is for the record. Also, I feel you'll want to know about the Library Dinner last evening (May 18). It was a glorious affair. When the bust was presented (with a lovely speech) and the citation of merit read, the response was explosive — a "standing ovation" and a feeling of affection that filled the place. It was one of the best things that a crowd ever did to me. The Nebraska affair was, of course, grander, more impressive; but this was intimate, loving, precious. I wish you had been there.

On the 26th I'll do the honors at the Willa Cather banquet and dedicate the memorial to her.

I am making strong medicine for Bower!!

Love always — John.
