April 28, 6'6 Dear Slade:

I have been reading "I Fought with Geronimo" ever since it arrived, and I have greatly enjoyed it. Also, I prize the inscriptions on the flyleaf. What a man that was!! Is he still living? I was especially glad to have this Apache's estimate of General Crook, who is a big figure in the history of my Plains Indians.

I'm about to begin (May 4th) a rather strenuous period of lecturing, ending July 8th. I do hope my eyes will carry me through. I think they will, with the aid of my illuminated reading glass.
