Letter from John G. Neihardt to Lucile Aly, March 19, 1969

5835 Vine St.
Dear Lucile:

You no doubt remember that Major H. R. Lemly circulated a petition among the members of the Order of Indian Wars of the U.S. urging an amendment of the Constitution. The purpose was to admit civilians as members, so that I would be eligible for membership.

The petition was presented to me when I was taken in. It was signed by a considerable number of old Indian fighters, beginning with General Nelson A. Miles.

I have been hunting for that little document, and I've wondered if it may have been loaned to you. I'd give a lot to find it.

I do hope you are well, and that you will write [soon?] .

With affection — John Neihardt
