Letter from John G. Neihardt to William H. and Dorothy Young, November 16, 1972
Lincoln, Nebraska 68505
November 16, 1972 Mr. and Mrs. William H. Young 1272 Villa, Sp. 72 Clovis, California 93612 Dear William and Dorothy:
I was more than delighted to receive your letter, for you brought back the old times for me. It has been years since I first heard of you from J. D. He told me how you introduced him to my work. I think it was while you were trimming apple trees, wasn't it, and I believe you said something about my being a great poet? And now after about 50 years I have the privilege of hearing directly from you and it is a joy.
You should look in upon us some afternoon and see how we keep up with our correspondence. It has become a strenuous business, and I am afraid it's almost too much for the household. Myrtle, bless her heart, is a tremendous help, and J. D. contributes his share at least.
I have come to think of the Young home as mine and I have been here, I believe, five years.
I have just recalled a most pleasant visit with your son Bill and his family several years ago.
I am so glad you like my little book, ALL IS BBUUT A BEGINNING, and am especially glad for what you say about the concluding chapter. I am pleased to know that it really reaches people and says something that I very much wanted to say to the youngsters of our time. Bless their hearts! They have a real job ahead of them, and they'll find a way to meet what comes.
