November 29, 1972 Mrs. Anne Deirup 1629 Josephine Street Berkeley, California 94703 Dear Anne Deirup:
It was good to hear from you, and I am certainly pleased that you will give Mab's first editions of my work to the Neihardt Foundation at Bancroft, Nebraska, when the proper time comes.
The Foundation is a new organization and has only recently begun to buy land for a museum they intend to build.
Bancroft is a little town in Nebraska on the border of the Omaha Indian Reservation. It was my home during my youth and for years while I was writing some of my best known books. The Foundation has restored my old study and developed a little park about it near my former home. Also it has built a beautiful Sioux Prayer Garden as a memorial. The "Neihardt Center" is listed as a national historical site, and many tourists visit it every summer.
With affectionate thoughts, John G. NeihardtJGN:nh
