May 30, 1973 Dr. Leo E. Oliva Department of History Fort Hays Kansas State College Hays, Kansas 61601 Dear Dr. Oliva:
Many thanks for your kind letter of May 21, 1973, and for the autographed copy of your book, Soldiers on the Santa Fe Trail. I am looking forward to having the book read to me as my eyes are not as good as they should be. I am sure I will find the book fascinating.
Just at present, as for some months past, I am occupied with recording my work for the United Artists. They are planning a series of twelve albums, the first of which will be out in August.
Please know that I am deeply grateful to you for your thought of me. How I do wish I could plunge in head first and read the whole book at a sitting. I am especially interested in the Santa Fe Trail, and I am sure you are going to give me a great deal of pleasure.
Kindest thoughts, John G. NeihardtJGN:nh
